Self Taught - Ruth Storey
We came across Ruth Storey, a self taught analogue photographer from South Yorkshire on Instagram. We immediately reached out, wanting to share her dreamy photography on the site.
Analogue photography is the only medium I've found that allows me to express my creativity in the way I want with results I want. I particularly enjoy experimenting with double exposures, transparencies and emulsion lifts, as well as triptychs and collages. This is a world away from my day to day life and this creative outlet is so important to me.
This year I was invited to be part of the 12:12 project. It's a fantastic collective established by Penny Felts a number of years ago. In short, it's 12 women (there is also now a men's group too), each picks a theme and one theme is selected each month for us all to shoot as we interpret. Essentially, 12 women, 12 months, 12 themes. I was thrilled to be invited, so many of the women photographers I look up to and who inspire me are, of have been, members.
My go to polaroid cameras are my SX70 and my MiNT slr670s. The original folding cameras are a thing of sheer beauty, some of the finest cameras ever made, you cannot beat that click, whizz, whir! For 35mm I turn to my Nikon FM2 and prime lens.
