Andreea-Mihaela Andrei - Polaroid Portraits
Andreea Andrei is a visual artist based in London, UK. She studied two years of film school back in her home in Bucharest, Romania, taking time to work in television before deciding to move to London and finish her studies and start working towards a career as a visual artist.
Andreea approached us, excited about currently preparing her first solo show in London at Camden Image Gallery, with a project made entirely with two polaroid cameras and shooting in black and white. Below is a selection of her work.
There's something about the nostalgia of polaroid along with the beauty of the imperfections that make the images feel very ethereal. Find out more about Andreea's work here: www.andreeaandrei.com/polaroid-project-instant-people-1
F&A: What is creativity to you?
AA: For my creativity it's a way of being, I guess. I think you get creative and you feel something bursting inside you and you just need to let it all out and it gets different types and shapes. Creativity it's my inner voice the one that gives me the power to do wonderful things.
F&A: How do you lead a creative life?
AA: First of all I think you need to get rid of that fantasy that if you lead a creative life you'll be just on milk and honey all the time, that's partial true, but you need to work your bottom hard and you need to be prepared for failure and people talking not with such nice words. After you manage to get rid of this, I know it's hard, sometimes it gets me as well, but you need to shake yourself off and do whatever it makes you happy. Go to museums , listen to old records , go to the cinema and try to see old french films like the new wave of french cinema like Godard or Truffaut, travel, travel a lot if you can and you can manage with the money, see other cultures, explore life and cities , meet with new people and get inspired by them. See old photographs and go to flea markets on a saturday morning. I think this way you can live a creative life and you can lead towards that.
